How To Save Money On Laundry Machines?

If you plan to cut costs on laundry, you have come to the right place. In fact, reducing your laundry costs take only a very little effort. There are three important things that you need to do in this regard. Simply don’t use heat whenever possible, do the work at night, and throw in the right amount of clothes into the machine.

Reducing Heat

LG Electronics claims that heating the water in wash drum of the machine accounts for 90% of the energy used by the machine. Washing your clothes on a cold water setting may reduce your energy consumption more than what you expect. On the other hand, washing your clothing in cold water won’t cause the colors to fade. Hence, you don’t have to separate the light colors from the dark due to this reason. That means a cold wash not only saves energy but reduces the amount of work that you have to do.

You will use quite a bit of heat if you plan to dry the clothes in the machine drier. But there is no other option in this regard unless you plan to air dry your clothes. That may be a bit of inconvenience for some – especially those who live in small spaces.

Measuring Your Laundry Loads

If you are one who stuffs the washer until it is full, you are not doing any good to the machine. Although the machine will likely take in whatever throw at it, it is not a good idea at all. On the other hand, you should consider the amount of clothing that could be handled by the machine drier if you plan to use it to dry the clothes. If there is only a little room for movement in the drier, the machine will not be able to do its job – that way you may have to run the drier twice. That is why you need to make sure to measure the laundry load before washing it. A good rule of thumb is to leave 25% of space empty in the machine when washing and drying the clothes. Most driers are larger than the washers – your clothing will take up less space once they are wet. Make sure you leave room for good air flow when washing and drying the clothes.

Doing Your Laundry After 8:00 PM

Most of the power companies will offer discounted rates during off-peak hours. Although the hours and times may differ depending on the company and what part of the country you reside, you need to take advantage of these discounted rates when washing and drying your laundry. In fact, if you can shift a good portion of your energy usage to off-peak hours, you can save some money in the process.  You need to call the power company in the area and find out whether they offer off-peak discounts and when they begin and end. Most of the time, it will begin at 8:00 PM. There is also an energy comparison app that will show you the best policy to use if you wish to save energy. That is why you need to do the laundry in the evening. But if you are a person who handles the chores during the day, this method may cause some inconvenience to you.
